2006 American Ballet Competition Final Awards
From throughout the USA, France, Mexico, Panama and Ecuador, young talented dancers competed in three divisions for awards and scholarships.
We thank New World School of the Arts – Dance Division for hosting the competition and very special appreciation goes to the jury, the contestants’ parents and teachers for their commitment to the development of these fine young students.
The winning awards went to:
DIVISION I (ages 11 & 12):
1st Place Female: EMILY ORILLAC, AGE 12
Miss Orillac, a student of Isabelita Lewis, studies at the Acadamia de Danza Steps in Panama, Panama.
$150.00 Cash Award plus a summer scholarship to Interlochen Arts Camp, Interlochen, MI.
Best Male Dancer: ESTEBAN HERNANDEZ, AGE 11
Mr. Hernandez, a student of Hector Hernandez, studies at the Centro de Danza Clasica de Jalisco in Zapopan, Mexico.
$150.00 Cash Award plus a summer scholarship to American Ballet Theatre.
2nd Place Female: SUZI ROBERTS, Age 12
Miss Roberts, a student of Liza Mata, studies at the Coastal Dance Centre in Murrells Inlet, SC.
$100 Cash Award plus a summer scholarship to Interlochen Arts Camp, Interlochen, MI.
3rd Place Female: DAWN GIERLING, AGE 12
Miss Gierling, a student of Janna Kirova, studies at the Melbourne Ballet Center in Melbourne, FL.
$50 Cash Award.
Encouragement Award: ARIELLE MARTIN, AGE 11
Miss Martin, a student of Vasile Petrutin, studies at the Ballet Academy of Central Florida, Orlando, FL.

1st Place Female: NORA MCGINLEY-HENCE, AGE 13
Miss McGinley-Hence, a student of Anastasia Babayeva studies at the Academy of International Ballet, Media, PA.
$500 Cash Award plus a summer scholarship to Ballet Austin Academy, Austin, TX.
Best Male Dancer: JEFFREY CIRIO, AGE 15
Mr. Cirio, a student of Rolando Serabia, studies at the Art of Classical Ballet in Pompano Beach, FL.
$500 Cash Award plus a summer scholarship including room and board to Milwaukee Ballet School, Milwaukee, WI.
2nd Place Female: KAITLYN POTTS, AGE 15
Miss Potts, a student of Troy Brown, studies at the Dancesensations Dance Center in Alexandria, PA.
$300 Cash Award plus a summer scholarship to Joffrey Ballet School in New York, NY.
3rd Place Female: LEAH BURGE, AGE 14
Miss Burge, a student of Magaly Suarez, studies at the Art of Classical Ballet in Pompano Beach, FL.
$200 Cash Award plus a summer scholarship to Cincinnati Ballet’s Otto M. Budig Academy, Cincinnati, OH.

$500 Cash Award plus a summer scholarship to North Carolina School of the Arts, Winston-Salem, NC.
2nd Place Female: SHELBY RATCHFORD, AGE 16
Miss Ratchford, a student of Samantha Dunster, studies at the Orlando Ballet School in Orlando, FL.
$300 Cash Award plus a Fall 2006 scholarship to Victor Ullate Ballet in Madrid, Spain.
2nd Place Male: RHODES ELLIOTT, AGE 17
